These beach home decor ideas emulate a relaxed yet chic atmosphere that go beyond calming colors, nautical nods and mixed materials.


Fresh Foyer

In the entry of the 1970s Palm Beach home, interior designer Ellen Kavanaugh created a “rug” of glazed terra-cotta tiles from Paris Ceramics amid floors from Absolute Hardwood Flooring. Mr. Brown London’s Parrot table centers the space beneath Hector Finch’s Lollipop globe. Against a mural by artist Austin Kerr, Julian Chichester’s Avellino bench sits beneath McGuire’s Hoku mirror.

In the dining area of a Hamptons retreat, a tiered silver pendant with blue cocoa beads from Made Goods illuminates a custom table fabricated by Silkwood Ltd. The seats of the rattan-and-rope chairs from Palecek are covered in fabric from Hines & Company.

Wood cabinetry—Anigre frames with wire-brushed elm veneers—gives this Naples, Florida, kitchen a beachy yet elegant feel. “I knew we could make something more interesting than your standard white kitchen,” designer Bruce Coon says. The Jasper Collection table is paired with chairs from Joseph Jeup. A Stephen Antonson chandelier is suspended overhead.


Eclectic Accents

Hand-painted plates by Sean Mellyn offer a colorful moment in the entryway of the 1970s Palm Beach apartment of designer Scott Sanders and his husband, Peter Wilson. Acquired with the unit, the vintage credenza holds a lamp from Florida Modern, a brass fish figurine from Show Pony and canisters by More Fire Glass Studio, which pop against original whitewashed pecky cypress walls and terra-cotta tile flooring.


Rattan Retreat

“Beach-house chic” is how designer Monica Fried describes the decor of this Southampton guest bedroom. The patterned rug and textured quilt are both from The Citizenry. The rattan pendant is from Pottery Barn and the cane bed is from Industry West.

Palm House wallpaper by Brunschwig & Fils brings a fun tropical vibe to the master bedroom in Vero Beach, Florida. The bed’s custom headboard is covered in a Sunbrella fabric, and the Linear cherrywood side table is from Room & Board. Sisal on the floor adds warmth and contributes to the bedroom’s Florida feel.

Interior designer Ellen Kavanaugh and designer Madison Way wrapped a Palm Beach foyer in Meg Braff’s Sporting D’ete wallcovering in Snow on Steel Blue. Vaughan’s Zurich lantern hangs from a ceiling covered in Phillip Jeffries’ Sevilla Weaves grass cloth in El Cielo. Paris Ceramics provided flooring tiles of honed white-and-gray Spanish marble.

A rattan mirror and ceramic gourd lamps join a Hickory Chair console in the foyer of a Vero Beach, Florida, home by designer Leah Muller. A metal chandelier suspends over Patterson Flynn Martin’s Variable rug. The floor-to-ceiling woodwork is painted Benjamin Moore Super White. “We wanted immediate artistic impact through the front door,” Muller says.

In this South Florida living room, the Urban Electric Co.’s Virginia lantern hangs from the cypress ceiling. Deep blues throughout imbue this Miami residence with a soothing coastal feel, seen in the bar and lounge’s Ralph Lauren Home’s Leizu Silk Midnight wallcovering. “The family was excited about this space, because they already owned a beautiful piano and a nice collection of books to create this social hub for the house,” says interior designer Bea Pila.

Encircling a quartz and cement cocktail table by Fernando Mastrangelo, a quad of Laura Kirar Coastal Braided swivel lounge chairs for McGuire supplies a second conversation group in the living room of this South Carolina beach house. The pillows are accented in Susan Connor New York’s Pommia Belgian linen, while a Supernova chandelier by Lou Blass—through AD LIB Gallery in Hudson, New York—sparkles in the entryway beyond.


Cloudy Skies

The central sunken courtyard became a formal dining room level with the rest of the Southern California home. Blue grass cloth from Thibaut lines the walls, highlighting a print by artist Laurie Simmons. In the center, a custom dining table is ringed by Palecek’s Santa Barbara armchairs. The chandelier is RH and the Berber-style rug is from Cottage Furnishings.

An oyster shell mirror from Made Goods provides a beachy accent in this Florida dining room, where chairs by Hickory Chair touting Romo fabric surround a Stanley Furniture greige-stained wooden table with a metal base. The polished-nickel sconces are by Visual Comfort and the whitewashed sideboard is from the designer’s own LMI Collection.

In the family room, “large-scale shiplap provides a durable yet tropical feel,” architect Clemens Schaub say of the Florida Keys retreat. Interior designer Andrea Goldman displayed “Fish Farms, Bima, Indonesia” by David Burdeny over Cisco Home sofas and placed Visual Comfort & Co. lamps on CFC side tables. Palecek’s Melrose armchairs and a custom bleached oak coffee table join the grouping on Merida’s jute Varkala rug, while a Scabetti chandelier presides over the scene.
